So glad you guys like the idea.
I propose a Mortal Kombat tourney.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
Er, I've never played a Mortal Combat game, ever. In fact... I rarely play anything that could be considered a fighting game outside of Smash Bros. That could put a damper on things... And even at Smash Bros, I'm only an intermediate player anyway. I was never so great at fighting games, where you've got to remember all these different complex button combinations and controls and use 'em in the heat of battle. I'm better at stuff like Mega Man, where you've got a few, simple functions that control tightly and satisfactorily, and you apply them with skill and grace to kick ass.
...Of course, that's just me. I'm sure it would be amusing in its own way to see how badly I get steamrolled in the first round.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
Brilliant idea just came to me.
What if...
We have a tournament. The bracket is the same as it normally would be, whatevers. But each round is a completely different game. The challenges are all randomized and stuff, so you never know what you're gonna have to do. So say, one round is seeing who can win a round of Mortal Kombat, and the next is seeing who can get through the Cut Man stage in Mega Man 2 first.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
That sounds... wonderful. Of course, the championship would be fairly easy to achieve by fluke, since one might be fortunate enough to always get challenges in areas of strength, but whatever. It's not like it's the victory that would be important.
Also... we'd be using this in-browser emulator you mentioned? I took a quick peek at the site... wouldn't we need some kind of video-capture software?

FFSplit and XSplit seem to work well, I think. And they both have Twitch integration, so you can record and broadcast at the same time. We could do a group call in Skype and have Twitch going for whoever is up to bat.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
Two guys actually do something similar to what Yusei said, and it's a great idea. Gregar, I have recording software, if it's possible to spectate matches and things like that on the site I can record that way, but otherwise I wouldn't be able to. For recording software... I don't know of any free software that's reliable and won't turn the footage into mush. Of course, there's always screen sharing, so that could theoretically work if I have access to a screen, and someone is willing and able to download compatible software.
Furthermore, from what I remember back when I was mentioning pirating KHIIFM, not everyone has a competent gaming laptop, which will limit what we can use. Nothing past PS1/N64, and even that might be pushing it a tad, considering that we'd be doing this over wi-fi. Handheld and classic games would be perfect for such an occasion, and the Sega and Nintendo platforms pre-N64 are ripe for opportunities. I'd also love to see co-op games and co-commentary over even one player games. Watching someone play Secret of Mana or sharing my absolute love of Paper Mario? Hell yeah.
Doesn't XSplit require a subscription? And that sounds cool, but I'm a little confused on the setup XD

It requires a registration of an account, as far as I know.
Also, I have a top-notch gaming computer that was built for me, so I don't have any problems there, personally.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
In theory, my laptop is designed with gaming in mind. In practice... it might get a little choppy. It runs Cave Story+ and Final Fantasy VII on Steam decently, with hiccups now and then in Cave Story and the occasional slight freeze for FFVII. It runs Portal with only a slight loading delay and minor hiccups, same as with Psychonauts and both Sonic Adventure games. The demo for Bastion is very unreliable to play, though, so what does that mean for the capabilities of my machine...? What's so difficult about making Bastion run smoothly?
...Oh, and the demo for Sonic Generations can get incredibly choppy at times, too. Maybe it just doesn't handle demo software well, but that doesn't make much sense.

Re: General Discussion Mark II
I know XSplit Pro requires membership, but I'm sure we can go the NCS route and make do with bare-bones. So sounds good to me.
Gregar, your system sounds like it could run N64/PS1 games fine, and maybe some PS2 games (like Disgaea). Anything more strenuous than that, however, and problems like lag or shit-tastic renders. See, the thing is, my machine can run SA2B off steam well. Like really well. Trying it on the Gamecube emulator though? 20 fps right off the start, and usually another 10 more depending on what's going on. Given that context, that's why I've been a little stringent on the cutoffs with machines. Not because I don't want to roflstomp people in a KH2 race. But because I don't know if it'd work in a timely fashion for them. XD

Apparently, the only thing XSplit can do is a digital camera until you buy something. I do know that FFsplit is completely free, as is OBS, but I really don't know that those will work with my computer, considering they provided pretty choppy video when I first tried them...

Re: General Discussion Mark II
That aside, any suggestions for challenges to go into the tournament?
Edit: I had in mind some stuff for a few harder games, like Castlevania or Earthworm Jim or something, where the objective is pretty much to go the longest without dying, or at the very least, getting a game over.

We should probably focus on participants and getting them set up first.

Yeah, well.
I'm a little too excited. I do that sometimes. A lot, actually.
Anyway, I'm trying to find a good screen sharing software. CrossLoop and Join.me stand out, but I'm not so sure about either and I can't really test them at the moment. And I'm not really sure CrossLoop gives access to multiple people, so that might be out. But Join.me is definitely able to screen share with 10 people.

Well, CrossLoop looks pretty freakin' simple.
Join.me, on the other hand, appears to run on an install for the broadcasters, and it runs in the browser for those being broadcasted to.

Never played it, actually. Definitely down to try it.
I expected someone to come watch the broadcast so I just randomly started playing Megaman II for no reason.

They do, but you have to download the little gamepad.exe program they link you to when you try to set it up. It's simple, and then you just bind the buttons.

This sounds super convenient. Any chance you can find an N64 version of this?

I kinda doubt that I could find a browser emulator that does this, but I'm sure there's one out there that just is online multiplayer in general.
