Fallout NYC
War. War never changes.
When the world was plunged into the chaos of the Great War, many of the pinnacles of the old world were wiped away, the slate wiped clean by the waves of nuclear destruction.
One of the few remaining bastions of the past is Vault 50, where the citizens who believed the warning signs fled to survive the coming apocalypse. As the bombs started falling, the great steel door slid closed, not to open again.
The year is 2243, and over the past 12 months, the Vault systems have been glitching and breaking down at an alarming rate. Most of the Vault dwellers are getting worried but believe the Overseer will be able to handle it.
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Throughout the Vault, a sharp clicking noise is heard as the PA system is switched on. "Hello fellow residents of Vault 50, this is your Overseer speaking. I am calling an emergency meeting to discuss the growing problems of the Vault. All residents of the Vault over the age of sixteen please come to the meeting hall. For those who are not old enough to have gone, take the elevator to the top floor."
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Within a few seconds of the announcement, Max is up and rushing towards the door of his dormitory, punching his roommate Tim on the shoulder before telling him, "Wake up man, Overseer's holding a meeting."

Naxius woke with a start, just early enough to hear the announcement. He made his way towards the meeting room as soon as the announcement had finished.

Re: Fallout NYC
Seth looked up from his bundle of steel panels, a basic puzzle he had been doing. He stood up as the announcement went off. "Guess that's me" He thought, taking the puzzle and pocketing it before heading outside his dormitory.
Re: Fallout NYC
Tim sat up quick, after getting the punch from Max, "Wha-?" but it was already too late. Max had already disappeared.
Tim hauled himself out of bed, throwing on his shirt and lumbering down the hall to the meeting hall.
Tim Walsh. 19 years old. Stronger than average. Intelligence? Below average. He got along fine, yeah, but he was never quite up to par with the rest of the group. He entered the hall, finding a spot next to Max, and sat down.

Re: Fallout NYC
Seth stretched as he walked into the hall and sat down behind two guys he saw around the vault but never really cared to speak to. He looked at his hands, which were lready toying with his puzzle.
Re: Fallout NYC
After everyone is seated, the Overseer steps up to the podium set up at the head of the room. The aging man cleared his throat once before he started speaking.
"My fellow Vault residents, I'm sure all of you are aware of the problems that the Vault has been having recently. We have been working around the clock to try and find the cause of this problem and we have found it. About twelve months ago, a signal was received from outside the Vault. This signal activated a subroutine in the Vault's mainframe and began corrupting most of the computers programming. At the moment, we believe that we have less than six months before the corruption causes a total shut down of the Vault."
Closing his eyes and sighing, he continues, "At the present moment, we have neither the skills, time or materials to fix this problem before the Vault deactivates. Unfortunately, it seems that the only hope for the continuation of our Vault is for an individual, or a small group of individuals, to leave the Vault and to try to find a replacement mainframe or the materials necessary to repair the mainframe. As sudden as this is, we do not have much time to waste and so I must ask, do I have any volunteers?"

Re: Fallout NYC
Seth curled the puzzle up in his palm as he raised his head. "I guess I can finally start contributing around here too"
Re: Fallout NYC
Standing up quickly, Mark at the other three who had volunteered and grinned slightly.
After waiting a moment to make sure that no one else was volunteering, the Overseer nodded and spoke up. "Alright, this meeting is adjourned. Can the volunteers please follow me to my office? There is much you need to know."

Re: Fallout NYC
Seth followed the other boys to the Overseers office, he kept himself at a slight distance.
Re: Fallout NYC
Tim led the way, right behind the Overseer. He was excited. The poor kid had always wanted to get out of this damn vault, to see the world the world that used to be.
He entered the Overseer's office and waved Max over to him.

Re: Fallout NYC
Seth stepped into the Overseers office, not really thinking of anything other than the adventures ahead of him, the possibility that he can be seen as more than a industrial worker.

Re: Fallout NYC
Max stepped into place next to his roommate as the Overseer sat down at his desk with a groan. Holding his arm in front of him, he began typing on his Pip-Boy as he started talking.
"Due to the intricacy of the Vault's mainframe, more than likely the only places you will be able to find a replacement or the materials to fix this one are at a Vault-Tec facility or another Vault. With the closest Vault-Tec facility being the headquarters in D.C., that is not an option. Due to the corruption that we have suffered, the only Vault we were able to pinpoint was Vault 31, about 20 miles east and slightly south of here. Once you locate it, you must gain access and see if the residents will help you. Try to get the parts, but if you can't, get the locations of any other Vaults in the area. Any questions?"

Re: Fallout NYC
Glancing at Naxius, the Overseer sighed and nodded. "As much as I wish it wasn't so, with the likely state of the world, you'll need some kind of protection from whatever you find out there. As soon as we are done here, one of the guards will escort you to the Vault's armory, where you can select whatever weapons and armor you think you'll need."

Re: Fallout NYC
Tim raised his hand, "What if Vault 31 is no longer an option? What do we do if we can't access it, I mean."
Re: Fallout NYC
"If you cannot access Vault 31, someone who is alive on the surface might know where another one is. If that falls through as well, please return here and inform me."

Re: Fallout NYC
The Overseer sighed before answering Seth, "While I don't believe they would turn you away if you prove you are from a Vault, should you find no assistance there, then act as if you had not been able to access the Vault." Looking at Max, he asked him, "Do you have any questions?"
Max shook his head before responding, "No, any concerns I had have been addressed by my associates." The Overseer nodded and motioned in a guard, telling the volunteers, "Officer Peterson will show the four of you to the armory, if you are ready."
