Re: Hybridic Heroes Game! OC Bios
Name: Clant Chess
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Class: Fighter
Background:
Childhood: Born and raised in Boren, his family wasn't terribly wealthy. They got by. Of course, without much money to spare for such things as entertainment, Clant would either pour his whole effort into doing his chores, or daydream. It was often the latter, when he was younger, and he sometimes lost touch with reality.
Teenage Years: As he grew, he put more energy into his efforts to keep his household going, and he slowly started to miss out on his whimsical thoughts. When his parents passed away, he became slightly bitter about how poor they were; perhaps if they had been able to afford some kind of medical assistance, they would have survived. Over time, he developed a slight fixation on other peoples' wallets, and would often take them without realizing it. His sister wouldn't allow him to keep the contents, and made sure that he returned them as quickly as possible, usually making him apologize to the owners.
Adulthood: Clant, having built his body through physical labor, and demonstrating fairly impressive dexterity, was able to land a job with the city guard. While he had managed to subdue his habit of zoning out and daydreaming, it did have a tendency to happen while on duty. He made up for it by accidentally catching more than one criminal with his pickpocketing tendency... though he was eventually fired for that same habit, when he stole something from a superior. Having lost his job, and knowing he wouldn't find a job as well-paying in Boren, he left in search of stable income. His sister came with him, out of a sense of loyalty.
Appearance: Keeps his hair in check with a bandana, and has much more success with that than any generic shonen protagonists, though it still gets in the way of his face. His outfit has a collar, and his wide shoulder-pads give him a more masculine appearance. Has additional armor around his abdomen, and a pair of flaps covering his thighs, offering a little bit of additional protection. Wears a number of belts to keep it all in place, and his pants tuck into a pair of formal and well-polished boots. This guy may have some level of OCD regarding his boots, if he actually puts effort into keeping them so clean, or maybe it's just his training...
Deity: Chel-noth
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Weapons: A Bastard Sword - also referred to as a Hand-and-a-Half Sword - balanced strength and speed.
Armor: Fairly thin, flexible armor. It offers only a little protection, but does not inhibit movement.
Name: Clair Chess
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Class: Fighter
Background:
Childhood: Always the more serious one, even as a young girl, Clair put all her effort into keeping the house going. She had no time to play with dolls, and felt insulted whenever somebody would tell her to do something like that. It was her responsibility to keep her older brother grounded in reality.
Teenage Years: When her parents died, she became obsessed with keeping what was left of her family - Clant - from fading. And to that end, she started to really crave money. While she wanted it badly, she felt that her parents would disapprove of thievery, and chose to make an honest living, and keep Clant on the same path. At one point, her ideals wavered, and she considered turning to prostitution, but her brother reminded her that money is worthless if not earned honestly. Ironic, given how he was, but nonetheless true.
Adulthood: When her brother became a member of the city guard, she insisted on getting a job with them, too, as she couldn't let Clant earn all their money. She displayed a glint of intelligence in her interview, and was found to be highly likable, making it hard to turn her down. She continued to keep her brother from doing anything too crazy, but unfortunately, she caught the eye of a superior, who tried to take advantage of her. Clant inadvertently stole an item from the man, and saved his sister from him in the aftermath of his kleptomaniacal action. However, the man had Clant fired in retribution. Clair decided to go with her brother, both to escape the possibility of anything else happening, and to stay with her beloved big brother, and keep his head on his shoulders.
Appearance: Much softer-faced than her older brother, she wears an identical bandana to his, wearing her hair in much the same style, though her curliness makes it a little different. Her armor is a little thicker on her shoulders, chest, and abdomen. She has the same hip-plate-flap things as Clant, though hers are more outward than his. Among the belts covering that area, she has a dagger strapped to her thigh. She wears tight leggings as a substitute for pants.
Deity: Delthad
Alignment: Neutral Good
Weapons: A staff with a hidden blade at the end. She also keeps a dagger strapped to her thigh.
Armor: Padded armor that offers some protection, but she cannot wear terribly heavy armor.
Notes:
-Neither of them are Hybrids, but Clant's got enough quirk for the both of 'em.
-It is to be noted that their backgrounds are a bit different, but really, just tell their sides of the story. Clant remembers getting fired for his compulsive thievery, Clair recalls that he was fired for stealing a superior's item, inadvertently screwing up his attempts to get into her pants. For the record, she found out about how her brother had stolen the item when they were deciding on firing him.
-Clair is the younger one, but tends to act more mature when Clant acts his real, slightly insane self.
-Clant would have a rather poor Intelligence stat, but make up for it with his others. Clair would be a little short on strength, but compensate with much-improved Charisma and a little more Intelligence. I use vague terms on this because... I'm not going to be the one to calculate it out.

Re: Hybridic Heroes Game! OC Bios
Name: Orpheus X
Age: 26
Gender: M
Race: Panther
Class: Thief/Rogue
Background:
Childhood: Orpheus grew up wandering on the streets. He wasn't an orphan, but then again, his parents didn't want him, and he'd been disowned, not even allowed to keep his surname. The first time he was asked for a last name, he got flustered and responded with "Ehhcks...X." Before he turned 10, he had to learn to hunt outside the city using just a knife that he found in someone's garbage. However, he managed to maintain a fairly bright outlook, always thinking to himself "At the very least, nobody's telling me what I can and can't do."
Adolescence: As the scraps of food in the garbage stopped being enough to feed him, Orpheus took to stealing, and quickly became proficient at picking locks with his knife. He maintained his "I do what I feel like" attitude toward life, perhaps even moreso than he had in his younger years, and around this time became very good at lying, to the point where most people wouldn't question anything he said. Orpheus always found this hilarious, but knew well enough to keep his mouth shut.
Adulthood: Orpheus isn't long into adulthood, but very little about him has changed. He wanders between towns, often whistling a cheerful tune as he goes, and has a very free-spirited view of things. Even without having seen his parents since a very young age (six), nothing seems to faze him, though the keyword is seems. He doesn't think about his lack of parents, and it's one of very few truths he tells people. "My parents abandoned me when I was young."
Appearance: Orpheus is rather tall and on the burly side for a thief, though still not the most muscular guy around. Aside from the hooded cape, he seems almost ordinary, with short-cut black hair and overall just...average. His only standout feature his gold cat-pupil eyes. Oftentimes he wears a hood, either black or navy-blue in order to disguise them. Dresses in mostly dark colors, but strangely seems like the person who you'd allow to babysit your kids...
Deity: Dael-Boen
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Weapons: Dagger, Sword (wielded backhand)
Armor: No "armor" per se, just pads, on his shoulders and torso, as well as on his shins.
Notes:
Originally planned to make him a Tiger for the up to strength, but decided that a Panther would better suit a thief...plus the orange stripes would be kinda silly-looking in hindsight.
As I said, Orpheus is a skilled liar, and rarely tells the truth about anything. Odds are, if he says it, it's not true...so why does he seem so friendly and trustworthy? BECAUSE HE'S A FREAKING LIAR. SHUT UP AND TAKE IT.
Orpheus can't read, though he has no discernible accent when speaking.
I really like the name Orpheus, there is no other significance behind it.

Name: Seri Rook

Gender: Male
Race: Foxen
Class: rogue
Background:
Beginning:
Born in Port Mord with a very simple fishing family, Seri has seen a lot of back and forth for shipments, but he's seen just as much piracy as well. At the age of 8, he got to go on a small equipment voyage with a group of thirty sailors, it lasted only ten days at sea before they were attacked, raided, and every man on board but him was sunken with the ship. The pirate captain chose to pity the boy, but very quickly, Seri seemed to choose the water than to choose turning to a pirate, in the dead of night, he managed to cut loose a raft from ship and made for the Port, with two pockets full of loot. At that age he though nothing good came from being a pirate or a thief, but also at that age he already was.
Adolescence:
At the age of 13 he ended up joining a hunters group, very quickly taking to the art of using a bow and arrow. He found himself back on the sea again at 16, setting sail for a trade as the ships cabin boy, the shipment luckily wasn't in the path of pirates, but he found himself unable to stop looking at the cargo, it was mostly things like fine cloth, weapons, armor, and the odd chest of jewelry. It was so beautiful, so interesting, so easy just to pick clean piece by piece. He could've used the money from selling at least one item of the merch to buy food instead of trying to make due with his kills and what he could pick off a cart in the market. Seri had only stole what was small enough he could hide it in his pants, three rings. On the return trip, Seri was 300 gold coins richer, and nobody seemed to be the wiser. He then noticed that the art of theft was something he could get used to, even though it went against his parents honest ways. He ended up making the choice to leave his home and live how he felt would better himself at 17.
Adulthood:
From thievery came skill, he learned how to handle a blade as well as he handled his bow, as well as the much faster, but riskier art of pick pocketing. It's lead him to only a few fights, but he always managed to get away before things got too crazy for him. As he grew up to 20, he had considered going in piracy as well as shipment, why not, he didn't care for the laws, but he also could see the trouble of it already, maintaining two ships, as well as finding a crew would take time, time he didn't want to spend, he put the idea on the back burner. Now, at 21 years old, Seri is still a thief, and a well adapted pirate under another mans flag, but he seeks something else that plundering and hunting doesn't give him, he wants adventure.
Appearance: Thin and slightly shorter than average height, Seri has a good muscle tone but he isn't big enough to draw the wandering eye. He has dark brown hair that falls near his eyes and neck but it fades into an orange hue near the tips, and slightly tanned skin from living at Port Mord, his eyes are a normal brown.
Deity: Delthad
Alignment: Neutral
Weapons: a compact bow and a short sword
Armor: hard Leather body armor that is light enough that it keeps him mobile, but could also protect him well enough from getting taken down or wounded from something sharp like an arrow, or the glancing blow of a sword.
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Race: Foxen
Class: rogue

Re: Hybridic Heroes Game! OC Bios
Name: Arianne
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Race: Foxen
Class: Sorceror
Background:
Beginning:
Her father being a sorceror himself, Arianne showed an interest in his work from a young age. She would follow him around practically hanging onto his leg as he went about his work, all the while studying for herself. Showing herself to have great potential her parents enrolled her into a special school. A week before school she was involved in an unfortunate accident in her father's study that left the right side of her face scarred, bare of fur and her right eye milky white and blind. This led to her being bullied all the time at school, so she would often hide herself in the back of the library trying not to be noticed.
Adolescence:
Shy, timid and insecure about her disfigurement, she grew her hair long in order to drape it over the right side of her face. She quietly continued to study and overtime came to be a bookworm. Avoiding most social interactions she seemed to just get by, until one fateful afternoon when a kind hearted boy named Hermes approached her and begun to strike up a conversation. Despite her insecurities she began to talk with him over the latter years of her schooling and one day worked up the courage to pull her hair back and show him what lay beneath. Much to her surprise and elation he pulled her close and told her she couldn't be more beautiful and planted his lips on hers giving her first kiss. Thus began their relationship.
Adulthood:
The two of them continued their relationship into adulthood, even going so far as to move in together. They lived a happy life together filled with moving moments such as the oak staff Hermes whittled himself and gave to her with an inscription of love carved in the side. Until one day Hermes never came home, concerned Arianne put on the light brown robes given to her by her father upon graduation she began to ask around town seeking answers to what happened to the love of her life. Finding out only that he was last seen leaving town she began to make preparations for a journey in search of her lost love.

Childhood: Andromeda's mother died in child birth, leaving behind a broken family. Her father seemed to blame her for the loss, and often abandoned her in the middle of a crowded area. However, Andromeda was blessed with a good sense of direction, and always seemed to find her way home, to her father's evident dismay. He never abused her, but most often ignored her when she was at home.
Adolescence: At the age of thirteen, Andromeda's father had decided he had enough of her and that she was the root of all his problems. He tried to kill her with a broken bottle of alcohol, but was stabbed through the chest by a burglar. She never forgot the words the robber spoke to her. "Listen, I'm generally against killing humans, but as you can see, I'm not afraid to make exceptions. I didn't take anything, you get to live, alright?" Naturally, she agreed, and was taken in by an orphanage in town.
Adulthood: Andromeda has taken it upon herself to become a healer, and has opened an orphanage of her own. Since the thief saved her life, her moral code has been brought into question, but she settled on this: Nobody dies unless they have done something horrible, and she is determined to help those others to the best of her ability.
Appearance: Very neatly-kept, with longish brown hair draped over one shoulder. She has had very few run-ins with anything that would require a fight, and as such does not currently wear armor. Wears primarily earth colors, and has a fox-tail of the same light brown as her hair.
Deity: Yid-Gath
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Weapons: Staff, healing or bo
Armor: Cloth Clothing

I swear to fuck if there's one more god damn orphan I'm going to flip my shit. Mal's the ONLY ONE to not have an orphaned character, or at least still have that character still have a connection to their living parents. What. The hell.

Orpheus isn't an orphan! He's just disowned. And I could always change it from "her father was killed" to "knocked unconscious with a nearby frying pan," if that's what you really want.
I honestly didn't notice the orphan thing, I can rework the character if it's bugging you.

Falls under doesn't have connection to living parents. It's fine, it's just... ugh.

I will make a mental note of this. In future, keep Zeldaman away from orphans.

Re: Hybridic Heroes Game! OC Bios
Hey, I only did it because you insisted on writing backgrounds for their childhoods. If I had left Clair and Clant's parents alive, they would probably turn out to be just as effective as their children in combat, if not more so, for arbitrary reasons. If their parents were farmers or something, and they were alive to hand down their jobs to their kids, then those two wouldn't be out there fighting! I'm not going to write another character just to satisfy your need to defy the trend that everybody's a damn orphan. Because the first thing that comes to mind in a nobleman, and I don't think it would be quite fair to do that. So complain to somebody else, like Delita. Of course, he'll just tell you to either blame yourself or God, so f*ck that guy.

I figured Orpheus needed a way to become a thief without being an orphan or general d-bag. Still a street-rat, but neither of the above.
As far as Andromeda, it was more character motivation. And at least she knew one parent for the majority of her life. He was a total sh*tstain on society, but at least she knew him.
As I said, though, I want no sh*t flipped while I'm present. I am capable of retooling things if I need to, and I'm not afraid to do so if that is what the GM says must happen.

Re: Hybridic Heroes Game! OC Bios
They could be an ordinary family, with two kids that wanted to be able to live out an early retirement in peace after adventuring. It's just a trend I've noticed and I apologize for acting the way I did, but enough with the sarcastic rants, dude!
Haar, you're fine, I'm just flustered. It's like what happened last time, everyone, literally almost everyone was a fighter or a rogue, and it was half dogs, half cats, with Gregar's and Mal's characters breaking those roles. It's... I dunno. Fuckin' forget it.

I honestly just wanted to make a backstory that was dark enough to justify turning to the Lawful Evil god of Necessity, Judgement and Purgatory for purpose.

As I said, I needed a reason for moral conflict.
That said, the common-ness of Rogues/fighters is exactly why I chose Cleric. And that was my starting point.

Re: Hybridic Heroes Game! OC Bios
Personally to try and balance things out I would have gone with a Monk because as it is we have:
1 fighter, 1 fighter (with thieving habits), 1 Thief/Rogue, 1 Sorceror, 2 Clerics, and no Monk

Well, I created the character in my head before Aesoth made his cleric, and Monk wouldn't fit with her backstory. Otherwise I would've done that.

Re: Hybridic Heroes Game! OC Bios
Understandable.
Maybe I'll write up a Monk after I watch my PPV.
Perhaps an orphan.....
